Rockhouse Hotel
Jamaica, Premium
A cool hotel set on the cliffs in Negril with its own distinctive style, built in light local stone and
blocks painted in bright colours, with hardwood floors and thatched roofs. The Rockhouse is
fun, hip and good value, the ultimate in tropical cool and tranquility.
Elaborate rock construction marks all public spaces and accommodations buildings in this
endearingly stylish boutique property. Guests are greeted in an open-air reception hall and
escorted via rock walkways to lodgings. The square bar, shaded by lofty thatch, overlooks
the jagged shoreline and surf, which are lighted for night viewing. The cliffside location is
key to the appeal - this is literally Jamaica’s westernmost point, and it’s possible you’ve
never seen a proper sunset until you’ve seen one here.
Accommodations are scattered along a
winding series of pathways atop the cliffs. Each
has a ceiling fan, a queen-size four-poster bed
draped in mosquito netting, and a moonlit
views of the sea.
Rooms and suites are built from rough-hewn
timber, thatch, and stone and filled with
furniture that echoes the nature theme. The
villas have private sundecks above the cliffs
and are worth the upgrade. You can ask for a
TV -- but only to watch videos.
The wood-hewn, terraced restaurant and bar offers some of the best food in Negril, a new
Jamaican cuisine featuring the flavorful spice of curries and the sweetness of tropical fruits.
The restaurant is suspended directly over the water making it one of the best places to
watch the sun go down.
The cliffside freshwater pool was carved from solid rock, as were the ladders and stairs that
lead down into Pristine Cove for swimming and snorkeling. There's also a spa that offers
yoga classes and in-room massages, kayaking, and a striking cliff-top infinity pool carved
into the bluff that seems to stretch all the way across the Caribbean sea.
• Ages 12 and older welcome.
