Jamaica Inn
Jamaica, Premium
Couples, beach enthusiasts and spa fans looking for restful Caribbean escapes will find it at
the beachfront Jamaica Inn. Located in a private cove on six tranquil acres, the resort
stands along a 700-foot private beach, offering thatch shades, tranquil sunbathing, and low-
key diversions like sailing and croquet. This boutique resort has been gathering awards
since it’s opening in 1950 and what still attracts clientele today is spiritual refreshment,
where no TV, radio or clock separates guests and rest.
In 2005, this time-honored grande dame upgraded many of its rooms and suites, adding
postmodern minimalist touches to some of its more upscale suites but it still retains its
pedigree as one of the genuinely elegant but low-key resorts, sticking to a way of life that
many clients adore.
This periwinkle blue Jamaican resort features
guestrooms that are very spacious, with
mahogany beds, carved-wood period pieces
and balustraded balconies opening onto views
of the sea. Bathrooms are elegant and roomy,
gleaming with marble vanities, combination
shower/tubs, robes, and deluxe toiletries.
One of the most appealing aspects are the
very large open-sided verandas. They're large
in even the smaller rooms fully furnished, in
essence, providing guests with a second room.
Complimentary hors d'oeuvres are served each evening and punch is offered on the beach
each morning. The resort has several onsite dining options which includes Shanty Town
restaurant or five-course gourmet dinners under the stars at the Terrace. The European-
trained chef prepares both refined international and Jamaican dishes that are served in
rituals as elegant and formal as anything in the Caribbean. The emphasis is on cuisine that
uses fresh local produce. Men must wear a collared shirt with long trousers at night.
The beach is a wide, champagne-colored strip; close to the shore, the sea is almost too
clear to make snorkeling an adventure, but farther out it's rewarding. Guests are also close
to many outdoor activities which includes sunfish sailing, kayaking, rafting, surfing,
snorkeling and horseback riding on the beach. This hotel is close to botanical gardens,
water falls, museums and adventure parks.
The resort's KiYara Ocean Spa is secluded behind a bamboo gate, where guests enter
open-air rooms with thatch roofs and bordered with dense tropical foliage. Guests will enjoy
the river-stone massages and body treatments, such as Piña Colada Body Polish;
Caribbean Cooler aloe; Ayurvedic herbs, local ingredients and rain shower; aromatic
Jamaican herbal roots; and Tahitian aromatherapy. .
